Sheila Marie Whitlock Gallegos
Sheila was born November 6, 1960 in Oakland, California to Jeff Whitlock and Patricia Brown. When Sheila’s mother Pat was called home to be with the Lord, Sheila was then adopted by her maternal grandparents Elisha and Mima Bass at the age of three. Sheila was lovingly cared for by her grandparents and now had eleven siblings to also watch over her in her new home of Hamilton City, CA.
Sheila graduated from Hamilton High School in 1978 where she made lifelong friendships with her many classmates. She enjoyed playing sports in high school, with track and basketball being her favorites. She attended Butte College for some time and took advantage of any opportunity to travel that came her way. Sheila was adventurous and did not let anything hold her back!
Sheila married Jose “Louie” Gallegos on January 28, 1994 in Reno, Nevada. Sheila loved and cared for Louie’s children as if they were her own. She provided Markos, Guillermo, Mikey, Ortencia and granddaughter Kayla with a warm and loving home. While Sheila took pride in working in the home, she also spent some time as a caregiver to the elderly. Her patients appreciated her hard work, quick wit and they ability to make them smile.
After a brief but strong battle with cancer, Sheila passed into the loving arms of Our Savior on July 17, 2020 at Enloe Hospital. Sheila did not want anyone to be sad, she was not. Like so many things in life, she faced this head on and was confident in her preparation for the next life. Sheila was generous to those she cared about and ready to give a helping hand. Sheila was also quick to tell you exactly what was on her mind and her laugh will always be remembered.
Sheila is survived by her husband Louie Gallegos. Her aunts Gloria and Angela Bass of Hamilton City, and Mima Jones of Lathrop, CA. Her surviving uncles are Robert and Burnice Bass of Hamilton City, Glenn Brown of Fresno, CA, and Charles Brown of Atwater, CA. She is also survived by numerous cousins and other family members that will miss her greatly. Sheila was preceded in death by her parents Pat Brown and Jeff Whitlock, her dear grandparents Elisha and Mima Bass, her uncles Thomas Brown, Anthony Bass, her aunt Lavinia Bass and her cousin Jesus Mundo.
Sheila will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank Pastor Loretta Dickerson and Rev. Robert Morton along with the entire Bethel AME Church family for their prayers and support during this difficult time. The family also wish to thank the nurses at Chico Creek Care and Rehabilitation and Enloe Hospital that cared for her so well.
