In Memoriam
Robert Gail Main
Robert G. Main passed away on 6-21-2022 after what he described as “A most fortunate life.” Robert was born in Bucklin, Missouri in 1932. He was a career army officer for 22 years and served in Vietnam and Korea, retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1976. He was also a professor at CSUC for 35 years. After retiring, he continued as a peer leader with Osher Life Long Learning Institute for many years until his passing. He was a lifelong scholar and had a love for people, travelling, and teaching. His intellectual curiosity was unbounded and he enjoyed the robust exchange of ideas and was tolerant of differing views. His wife of 67 years, Anita, and two sons, Robert Bruce and wife Patricia of Fairfax, Virginia and David Keith and his wife Karen of Chico survive him. He also has a brother, Jerry, in Bucklin, Missouri. Also surviving are grandson Jonathan and grand daughters Jessica, Daniella and Lindsay and five great grand children. A daughter Leslie Lorraine and a brother Edward preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chico Masonic Family Center located at 1110 West East Avenue, Chico 95926. All are welcome to attend as we celebrate the life of this amazing man.
A. Anita, Bruce, and Keith: I am so sorry for the loss of U. Robert. May he Rest In Peace. He will be missed immensely. Keep your faith and trust in our Almighty Lord Jesus. May God Bless you and your families at this most difficult time. My prayers are with you.
Dr. Main was one of the most approachable professors I had during my studies at CSU, Chico. He was a positive force, and encouraging to students like myself who were learning to be journalists. 35 years later I’m still working in Television News.
Anita, Bruce and Keith:
Janice and I are deeply saddened by the news of Roberts passing. Wishing you peace to bring comfort and the courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Dr. Main was by far and away the most impactful professor I had while attending Chico State. He was enthusiastic and joyfully passed his knowledge on to all of us, his students. I had the great honor of being selected by Dr. Main to create a post-graduation media show for the class of ’87 graduates and families. This project alone and his guidance taught me so much that now I have been an Instructional Designer for 35 years, and it is ALL due to the enthusiasm for learning my craft that Dr. Main poured into my life.
