Deanna Marie Craig

Jun 16, 2020

Deanna Marie Craig left this earth to be with Jesus in her Heavenly home on June 16, 2020. Deanna was 79 years old at the time of her death.

Deanna was born to Benton A. Jones and Dorothy May Jones on June 11, 1941 in Los Angeles CA. Deanna has an older brother, Allan Jones, who she repeatedly described as, “The best big brother I could have asked for.” The family lived in Highland Park, CA. Deanna attended high school at Culter Academy, a Christian school, and graduated in 1958.

Deanna has three children: her daughter Teri and her sons Mike and John. Deanna raised them as a single parent for ten years while also pursuing her education in nursing. Her children were very proud of her and appreciative of the example she set. Deanna attended Shasta College in Redding, CA from 1975-1979. Deanna graduated with her Associates in Arts Degree/ Nursing in 1979. In 1981 she pursued her bachelor’s degree at Cal State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock, CA and graduated Cum Laude on May 28, 1983.

On the same day, following her graduation, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Daniel Craig. With her marriage, she became stepmother to Dan’s two children Michelle and Brian. Deanna and Dan were married for 37 years at the time of her death.

Deanna lived in many parts of California; Los Angeles, Highland Park, Glendale, Truckee, McArthur, Redding, Turlock, Redlands, and Chico. Wherever she resided, she touched the lives of many.

Deanna lived out her Faith and routinely demonstrated integrity, empathy and joy. Deanna had a wonderful sense of humor and this was evident even when faced with challenging circumstances. Deanna cared deeply for others.

Deanna’s career in nursing included being a staff nurse (medical, surgical, and pediatrics) at Shasta General Hospital in Redding, CA, and at Emmanuel Medical Center in Turlock, CA. Deanna also worked in quality assurance, and utilization review for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Red Bluff, CA and for Partners Health Plan in San Bernardino, CA. The last seventeen years of Deanna’s career was spent in Hospice and this was the nursing that was closest to her heart. Her career in Hospice began in 1989 at Loma Linda University Medical Center Hospice where she was the program director and also a volunteer. In 1996 Deanna continued her work in Hospice and accepted a job as Director of Hospice for Feather River Hospital in Paradise, CA. Deanna was instrumental in the building of the Hospice House there. Deanna retired from Feather River Hospital in 2006.

Deanna had a strong Faith in God and her relationship with Him motivated her to reach out to others. She did this through her Church, the Evangelical Free Church in Chico, CA where she taught a class called, “Respectfully Yours,” as well as mentoring young women who sought her support and guidance. Additionally, Deanna volunteered and was later employed by the Women’s Resource Clinic in Chico. Deanna also regularly visited two women who resided in memory care facilities and enjoyed bringing them chocolate and other treats. Deanna wanted to be a light in this often-dark world, and she was.

Deanna’s hobbies included bicycle riding which she did with her husband Dan for many years. This was a hobby that they also enjoyed with their grandchildren. Additionally, Deanna liked to travel. She took trips within the U.S. with her husband Dan to New England and Alaska, among other destinations. Deanna also traveled with her daughter Teri to São Paulo, Brazil in 2014, to visit her son John.
